If you haven’t seen “Expelled! No Intelligence Allowed” I urge you to go see it. This documentary is powerful, intelligent, courageous, seriously funny, and much needed. If you care about freedom in education, you will want to see this movie. I went to see it already 4 times. If you are interested in reading my short take on the movie, go to our HSH blog at

Dear Customers and Friends,

I hope you went to see the movie “Expelled! No Intelligence Allowed.” It is worth your time as it addresses important issues of freedom: freedom of thought, freedom of speech, and freedom in education.

I just came across an interesting quote by Albert Einstein where he addresses a strikingly similar problem in Germany in the 1920's:

“I have always thought that the German university's most valuable institution is academic freedom, whereby the lecturers are in no way told what to teach, and the students are able to choose what lectures to attend, without much supervision and control. Your new statutes seem to abolish all of this. I would be very sorry if the old freedom were to come to an end.”

This quote comes straight from the best-selling book Einstein: His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson (Simon & Schuster, 2007, pg. 241). We all know what happened just ten years later, when Germany gave rise to Nazism, Hitler, and the persecution of political, ethnic, and “religious” enemies of the 3rd Reich. The memorial at the Dachau concentration camp reads in five languages “Never Again”. Ben Stein powerfully reminds us of that commitment in the movie “Expelled”.

I am reading the Einstein biography right now and find it fascinating. See the book cover in the sidebar to the left.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Hanno & Peggy Berg w/ Lydia, Abby, Oliver and Jenny
